The Maritime Research Centre (MRC), Pune in collaboration with the Centre for Advanced Strategic Studies (CASS), Pune Hosted a webinar titled “A Missing Dimension in Maritime Cooperation in the Indian Ocean Region: Underwater Domain Awareness” on 13 Jan 2021 at 1100 hrs. The event was planned to bring together the diplomatic community, maritime strategists, policy makers and other stakeholders, to focus on the steady imperative for a comprehensive, whole-of-the-nation policy-anchored perspective on UDA capacity building to meet India’s internal and external interests. This interaction strengthened stakeholder networking to encourage joint acoustic capacity and capability building. The high level dialogue deliberates on all the dimensions, relevant for the development of a way ahead. The broad strategic relevance of the dialogue inheres in the participants’ exposure to the policy issues, technological means, innovative tools and measures, geo-politics, organizational aspects both nationally and globally, regional and global frameworks, and more. The multiple organizations and their mandates within the country and their compatibility with similar entities and user entities were discussed. The GAP analysis in terms of policy and means and measures were discussed. The MRC prepared and submitted an action-oriented outcome document to the authorities and agencies within and outside the government for sensitisation and further action.
