The MRC, Pune in collaboration with M/S NirDhwani Technology Pvt Ltd (NDT) proposes to organize a high level interaction on taking forward the “UDA framework: A New Perspective for Exploring the Maritime Heritage in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR)”. The event will be Co-hosted with the Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute (BORI). The event will host experts and authorities from relevant organizations to discuss the relevance of the UDA framework in the ongoing geopolitical and geostrategic developments in the IOR and identify gaps to build a comprehensive way forward. MRC intends to initiate the next research fellowship on the Underwater Archaeology work focusing on the Shipwrecks and underwater sites.
There is a critical requirement to address the following aspects:
– Underwater Domain Awareness (UDA) perspective for developing a cultural connect across the IOR.
– Multi-disciplinary work to address the requirement on Underwater Archaeology in terms of technology, regulatory framework, history, social engineering, economic aspects, management issues and more.
– Identification of economic opportunities to boost the socio-economic status of the local population and make them aware of the importance of the underwater archaeological sites and the associated efforts.
– Capacity building and capability building directions for effective growth for the underwater archaeology for all in the region.
– Design and development of academic and research programs on the subject. A detailed report was prepared on the proceedings of the event and circulated to the stakeholders and policy makers
