Studying the acoustic ecology of the Indian Ocean Region and its impact on diver by Aarohi Kapadia

About

Aarohi Kapadia, a project fellow at MRC and a biomedical engineering student, investigates the acoustic ecology of the Indonesian region and its effects on marine ecosystems and divers. Despite campaigns against underwater pollution, acoustic degradation remains overlooked, posing risks to both marine life and divers. Human activities like shipping and construction contribute to underwater noise, which can cause physiological and psychological issues for divers, including panic and lung hemorrhage. Managing diving practices to minimize disturbances and addressing acoustic degradation’s impact are crucial for marine conservation and diver safety.
